Building Permits:

Building permits must be obtained for all work done on homes and commercial property. This is for roofs, siding windows, retaining walls, etc., or any repairs. If not sure if you need a permit, contact the Cambria-Somerset Council of Governments at 1-888-577-2377 or 814-266-3070 x 6.

Burning:

Council will no longer issue any more burning permits as DEP has informed Council there is a state law and the fine can go up to $6,000.00 for burning. BURN AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Curfew:

Town curfew for residents to age 15 is 10pm-6am. Residents ages 16 & 17 curfew is midnight-6am.

Sidewalk Maintenance:

It is the responsibility of the property owner to maintain the sidewalks in front of or alongside the property. Sidewalks must be kept free of grass, weeds, leaves, branches, snow and ice. All sidewalks are to be kept in a safe condition. Any replacement of sidewalks must be done in concrete.

Skate, Bicycle Regulations:

Use of rollerblades, skates or skateboards in any street, alley or sidewalk is prohibited in the borough. Bicycles are prohibited on any sidewalk in the borough.

Snow Removal:
Residents are requested not to plow, shovel or blow snow from their sidewalks or driveways back into the streets. When clearing your driveway, push snow to the right of your driveway or “down stream.” It is impossible not to have snow pushed into your driveways. Priority is given to streets along hills and schools, secondary streets and alleys are done as quickly as possible. There is restricted parking on streets from 3 am to 6 am from October 1 to April 30. These are posted and tickets will be issued. Every person in charge or control of any building or lot of land fronting or abutting on a paved sidewalk, whether as owner, tenant, occupant, lessee or otherwise, shall remove and clear away or cause to be removed or cleared away snow and/or ice from a path of at least 30 inches in widths from so much of said sidewalk as in front of or abuts on said building or lot of land. Snow and ice shall be removed from sidewalks within 12 hours after the cessation of any fall of snow, sleet or freezing rain.

Solid Waste:

All garbage shall be bagged, boxed or kept in a sealed container to prevent public nuisances. All bags shall have a capacity of not more than 30 gallons and a loaded weight of not more than 35 pounds.
