Johnstown
Generals giving fans a “thank you” deal on tickets.
JOHNSTOWN -- The Johnstown Generals, part
of the UIFL, will begin their season in February, 2012. As
a way to say “thank you” to their fans, they are
offering a Buy one, Get one Free Deal, until February 11,
2012.
-- “We wanted to show the fans how much we appreciate
them, by giving them a really good deal. This is also a way
that families can enjoy a few nights out, without spending
a lot of money,” said Head Coach, Quenteen Robinson.
-- The opening home game will be Sunday, March 11th.
That game proves to be a blast, with the Battle of the Churches.
The Generals have offered $5.00 tickets to area churches,
since it is their only Sunday game. Whichever church sells
the most tickets will win the Battle of the Churches, their
choir will sing the National Anthem, and their Pastor will
do the pre and post game prayers for the team. Other churches
will be able to stand and sing during the game, and will be
recognized throughout the game.
-- “Since our home opener falls on a Sunday, we wanted
to get churches involved. We try to promote a family-friendly
atmosphere. By offering the churches discounted tickets, their
youth groups and other members can have a wonderful experience
at the first big game,” –Head Coach, Quenteen
Robinson.
-- Other events will be Military Night, College Night, Hometown
Heroes Night, and Scouts Night, each offering discounted tickets
to members of these groups. Details will be announced closer
to the dates of the games.
-- This season proves to be an exciting one, with the return
of some veteran players, such as Victor “Big Sexy”
Sesay, DeQuawn Young, and Antoine Bagwell, as well as the
local talent of Lamont Stephens, Calvin Stephens, Aaron Princes,
and kicker, Matt Domonkos.
-- An addition to the team, this year, is the Junior Generals
Kids Club, sponsored by 1st Summit Bank and American Eagle
Screen Print and Embroidery. This will be free to kids 12
and under. By becoming a Junior General, children will receive
gifts from the Generals, including one free ticket to any
home game, and special Meet and Greets with the team.
-- Ticket prices start at $25.00, in the Proteus Grid Iron
Circle, and go as low as $7.00. Tickets are available at the
Cambria County War Memorial Arena Box Office or by calling
814-254-4379.
-- Home games will be played at the Cambria County War Memorial
Arena.

Borough
seeks donors for veterans park beautification project
EBENSBURG
-- The Veterans Park next to the former jail will soon be
refurbished thanks to a joint undertaking of Cambria County,
Ebensburg Borough, American Legion #363, and VFW Post #4963.
The project is to be completed by the end of summer and maintained
by Ebensburg Borough.
-- The project involves refurbishing the tarnished bronze
name plaques around the base of the granite obelisk, erecting
a new US flag pole surrounded by the five flags of the branches
of military service, new trees and landscaping, and installation
of new lights throughout the park.
-- As part of the refurbishing of Veterans Park, ten new benches
will be purchased. The benches are six feet wide with cast
iron side supports. The wooden Pau Lope slats are resistant
to rotting and splintering. “These are very nice benches
that will compliment the new park and be frequently used by
the community,” said Borough Manager Dan Penatzer.
-- The Borough is seeking donors for the ten benches. A 12”
x 3” bronze plaque will be attached to the bench identifying
the donor or who the bench was dedicated to or purchased in
memory of. “We hope that donors will consider acquiring
a bench displaying their business’ name, dedicating
a bench to a life-long borough resident, or honoring one who
served in the military,” said Penatzer.
-- The cost of each bench, including the bronze plaque, is
$1,000. The donation is tax-deductible. There are only ten
benches to be purchased, so they will be offered on a first
come basis. Cambria Care Center has already purchased two
of the benches. Those wishing to purchase one of the new benches
for Veterans Park should contact the borough office at 472-8780.
You've
asked for it, we've got it... sort of...WEBCAMS!
NORTHERN
CAMBRIA -- Through
the years, we have had requests here at NorthernCambria.com
for webcams. People in the area want to see what is going
on, as well as people that have moved from the area. We always
wanted to be able to provide webcams, but have not been able
to do so. That has changed...
-- We're partnering with the folks at My NC Cam to bring you
a view of town. Through both websites, we hope to give our
residents and those that have moved away a chance to see what
has changed, or stayed the same.
-- NorthernCambria.com and MyNCWebcam.com are both websites
from individuals that wanted to contribute in some way to
give back to the communities they grew up in. We hope that
we are accomplishing that goal. Between the two sites, we
aim to bring you the information and connections you are looking
for. Don't see something that might interest you? Ask us!
One of us may already have it, or would consider working on
it.
Check
out our Forum!
--
We know that not everyone is on Facebook, and we'd like to
be available to everyone. We noticed that we had a lot more
participation in the forums, especially the "What's Your
Beef" forum when users were not forced to register and
could post as a guest. The forum we are switching back to,
was one of the few that we found that did not require us to
make each poster register.
-- The previous board can be found HERE.
-- While guest posting IS now again permitted, we encourage
you to stop by and register. Registering adds additional benefits
such as knowing when new posts are made to topics relevant
to you, the ability to communicate with each other through
private messages, voting in polls we may list, and other enhancements
to the forums.
-- Our thanks again to everyone who has shown an interest
in the bulletin board and forums. We hope to see it regain
the amount of use it had prior to the change, and we appreciate
all your input. Please be patient while we get everything
back in order, and be sure to let us know if there is something
we can add to make it better.
-- So, how to get the ball rolling again? How about those
dead birds? Visit the new "What's
YOUR Beef?" and let us know "Dead birds and
dead fish, what's it mean?" This is a big topic lately,
even making a skit in last night's "Saturday Night Live".
What are your thoughts?
-- NorthernCambria.com and the NCABA
want to know what you think!! Have other ideas for "Beef"?
Let us know what's on your mind. Good? Bad? Need to vent?
Just have something you want to discuss? Let us know! We'll
also be giving you topics to discuss and give your opinion
on. Watch for new topics in the NCABA ad in the Barnesboro
Star, check NCABA-PA.com, or click the "What's Your Beef"
